Masbate City is the capital of Masbate, Philippines and the only city of the province, which has 20 municipalities. Founded on March 18, 1901, the province is one of the oldest settlements in the country.

On October 27, 2019, Lorenzo Isip represented Masbate at Ginoong Pilipinas 2019 and competed against 21 other candidates at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater of the RCBC Plaza Building in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines. He ranked fourth and was crowned Ginoong Pilipinas-Misters of the World 2019.
On July 11, 2021, Hannah Consencino Arnold represented Masbate at Binibining Pilipinas 2021 and competed against 33 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila. She ranked first and was crowned Bb. Pilipinas International 2021.
On September 30, 2021, Kirsten Danielle Tan Delavin represented Masbate at Miss Universe Philippines 2025 and competed against 27 other candidates at the Henann Resort Convention Center of Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol, Philippines. She finished in the Top 10.
On June 28, 2023, Samuel James Atrasado represented Masbate at Miss International Philippines 2023 and competed against 53 other candidates at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila. He was unplaced.
