The Negros Island Region of the Philippines was first established on May 29, 2015 with two provinces namely Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental and one city called Bacolod. The region was abolished on August 9, 2017 and reestablished on June 11, 2024 with Siquijor added as one of its provinces.

Negros Oriental has six component cities namely Bais, Bayawan, Canlaon, Dumaguete, Guihulngan and Tanjay. The province also has 19 municipalities namely Amlan, Ayungon, Bacong, Basay, Bindoy, Dauin, Jimalalud, La Libertad, Mabinay, Manjuyod, Pamplona, San Jose, Santa Catalina, Siaton, Sibulan, Tayasan, Valencia, Vallehermoso and Zamboanguita.

Negros Oriental was represented at Miss Universe Philippines 2022 on April 30, 2022 by Marilit Katipunan Iligan and at Miss Universe Philippines 2023 by Vanessa Maria Matzeit on May 13, 2023 both at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. They were both unplaced.

On May 2, 2025, Shamara Patricia Amy Krupa represented Dumaguete and the Filipino community of Great Britain at Miss Universe Philippines 2025 and competed against 65 other candidates at the same venue. She was unplaced.
