Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was born in Ermita, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines to Diosdado Pangan Macapagal Sr. and Evangelina Guico Macaraeg Macapagal. Born in Lubao, Pampanga, Philippines, Diosdado Sr. was the congressman of the first district of Pampanga from 1950 to 1957 and served as the country’s vice president from 1960 to 1961 and president from 1962 to 1965.
Gloria was a senator of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998 and she served as the country’s vice president from 1998 to 2000 and president from 2001 to 2010. She was the congresswoman of the second district of Pampanga from 2010 to 2019 and reelected in 2022 and 2025.

Pampanga has two component cities namely Mabalacat and San Fernando and 19 municipalities. Angeles is geographically located in the province but the city is independent from the province.
On May 12, 2025, Pampanga elected its new congressmen, governor, vice governor and provincial board members. The province has a total of 505 barangays excluding the 33 barangays of Angeles.

On May 2, 2025, Rhancoise Marie Mayangitan represented Pampanga at Miss Universe Philippines 2025 and competed against 65 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. She was unplaced.
