On May 21, 2012, the SM Mall of Asia Arena officially opened in Pasay. The arena has a full-house capacity of 20,000 and a seating capacity of 15,000 for sporting events.
On January 30, 2017, the 65th edition of Miss Universe was held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. A total of 86 women competed for the title including Iris Mittenaere of France, who won the title.
On April 30, 2022, Mittenaere went back to the SM Mall of Asia Arena to co-host Miss Universe Philippines 2022 with Pia Wurtzbach and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. Representing Pasay, Celeste Cortesi competed against 30 other candidates and won the title.
On May 2, 2025, Amanda Salvador Russo represented Pasay and the Filipino community of Pennsylvania, United States at Miss Universe Philippines 2025 and competed against 65 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. She finished in the Top 12.
