Manny Pacquiao was the congressman of Sarangani, Philippines from 2010 to 2016. His wife Jinkee Pacquiao was the vice governor of the province from 2013 to 2016 and his brother Rogelio “Ruel” Pacquiao was the congressman of the province from 2016 to 2022.

In 2022, Ruel was elected as the governor of Sarangani. He was reelected in 2025.

Ruel was born in Glan, Sarangani to Rosalio Pacquiao and Dionesia Dapidran Pacquiao. On June 17, 2024, Ruel turned 42.

Sarangani has seven municipalities namely Alabel, Glan, Kiamba, Maasim, Maitum, Malapatan and Malungon. The seven municipalities collectively have 142 barangays.

On August 8, 2021, Fatima Kate Bisan represented Malungon at Miss Philippines Earth 2021 and competed against 65 other candidates in a virtual coronation ceremony. She finished in the Top 10 and was named one of the five runners-up.

On July 31, 2022, Bisan represented Sarangani at Binibining Pilipinas 2022 and competed against 39 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.

On November 11, 2023, Bisan represented Sarangani at Hiyas ng Pilipinas 2023 and competed against 42 other candidates at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Cebu City, Philippines. She won the top title Miss Tourism World Philippines 2023.
