Kidapawan is the capital of South Cotabato, Philippines and the only component city of the province. General Santos is geographically located in the province but the city is independent from the province.

General Santos is the only independent city in Soccsksargen. The region has four provinces namely South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani.

South Cotabato has 10 municipalities namely Banga, Lake Sebu, Norala, Polomolok, Santo Niño, Surallah, T’Boli, Tampakan, Tantangan and Tupi. The municipalities collectively have 199 barangays.

On July 13, 2023, Jirah Bantas represented Tantangan at Miss Grand Philippines 2023 and competed against 29 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.

On May 11, 2024, Bethany Aguelo represented Santo Niño at Miss Philippines Earth 2024 and competed against 28 other candidates at the Talakag Gym in Talakag, Bukidnon, Philippines. She was unplaced.
