Alexander “Ayec” Ty Pimentel assumed office as the governor of Surigao del Sur, Philippines on June 30, 2019. He will assume office as the congressman of the second district of the province on June 30, 2025 and will turn 72 on July 9, 2025.
Pimentel’s brother Johnny Ty Pimentel assumed office as the governor of Surigao del Sur on June 30, 2010 and the congressman of the second district of the province on June 30, 2016. He turned 69 on March 29, 2025 and will assume office again as the governor of the province on June 30, 2025.

Surigao del Sur has two component cities namely Bislig and Tandag. The province also has 17 municipalities namely Barobo, Bayabas, Cagwait, Cantilan, Carmen, Carrascal, Cortes, Hinatuan, Lanuza, Lianga, Lingig, Madrid, Marihatag, San Agustin, San Miguel, Tagbina and Tago.
Collectively, the municipalities have 309 barangays. A total of 21 are in Tandag, the capital of Surigao del Sur.
On May 2, 2025, Dañelle Ann Bunyel Catalan represented Tandag at Miss Universe Philippines 2025 and competed against 65 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. She was unplaced.
