Benigno “Ninoy” Simeón Aquino Jr. was born in Concepcion, Tarlac, Philippines. He was the mayor of the municipality from December 30, 1955 to December 30, 1959, the vice governor of the province from December 30, 1959 to February 15, 1961, the governor of the province from February 17, 1961 to December 30, 1967 and a senator of the country from December 30, 1967 to September 23, 1972.

On November 27, 1982, Aquino turned 50. On August 21, 1983, he was fatally shot at Terminal 1 of Manila International Airport in Parañaque, Metro Manila, Philippines.

In 1987, the airport was renamed Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Aquiino’s wife María Corazón “Cory” Sumulong Cojuangco Aquino, a native of Paniqui, Tarlac, served as the president of the Philippines from February 25, 1986 to June 30, 1992.

On September 21, 2019, Levin Arguelles represented Tarlac City, Tarlac at Misters of Filipinas 2019 and competed against 21 other candidates at the Fil Oil Flying V Center in San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines. He ranked second and was crowned Mister International Philippines 2019.

On May 2, 2025, Sasha Juli Belle Lacuna represented Tarlac at Miss Universe Philippines 2025 and competed against 65 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. She finished in the Top 24.
