The southernmost province of the Philippines is Tawi-Tawi, which is one of the five provinces in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The province shares borders with Sabah, Malaysia and North Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Tawi-Tawi has 11 municipalities namely Bongao, Languyan, Mapun, Panglima Sugala, Sapa-Sapa, Sibutu, Simunul, Sitangkai, South Ubian, Tandubas and the Turtle Islands. Yshmael Ismail Sali was the mayor of Languyan from 1988 to 1994.
Sali has been the governor of Tawi-Tawi since June 30, 2019. On March 10, 2025, he turned 61.

On September 26, 2022, Fatima Shaneen Madsaik Shariff represented Tandubas at Budjang Tawi-Tawi 2022, competed against eight other candidates in Simunul and won the title. Jazzel Shannen Iba of Sitangkai ranked second and was crowned Budjang Tawi-Tawi Tourism 2022 and the respective first, second and third runners-up were Hajar Tidal of Simunul, Mikaella Nicole Sammah of Bongao and Fatima Zsamira Ismael of Sibutu.
On September 26, 2024, Elyzah Salih-Dalagan represented Tandubas at Budjang Tawi-Tawi 2024, competed against seven other candidates the Provincial Sports Complex in Bongao and won the title. Shaira D. Arasad of Bongao ranked second and was crowned Budjang Tawi-Tawi Tourism 2024 while Areejmae A. Namli of the Turtle Islands and Rosemina S. Karah of Sitangkai were the respective first and second runners-up.
On May 2, 2025, Iba represented Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines at Miss Universe Philippines 2025 and competed against 65 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.
