The sixth most populous city in Metro Manila, Philippines is Valenzuela. The city was named after Pio Valenzuela, who served as the 10th governor of Bulacan, Philippines from 1921 to 1925.
On November 7, 1975, jurisdiction over Valenzuela was moved from Bulacan to Metro Manila. On December 30, 1998, Valenzuela became the 12th city to be admitted in the Philippines’ national capital region.
Valenzuela is home to Chinese-Filipino couple William Gatchalian and Dee Hua Ting. They have four sons namely Sherwin Ting Gatchalian, Kenneth Ting Gatchalian, Rexlon “Rex” Ting Gatchalian and Weslie “Wes” Ting Gatchalian.

On August 16, 2014, Maria Jessica Oribe represented Valenzuela at Miss Grand Philippines 2014 and competed against 16 other candidates at GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila. She finished in the Top 10.
On July 11, 2021, Meiji Cruz represented Valenzuela at Binibining Pilipinas 2021 and competed against 33 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila. She ranked sixth and was named the second runner-up.
On September 6, 2024, Joanna Rellosa represented Valenzuela at Mutya ng Pilipinas 2024 and competed against 30 other candidates at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila. She was unplaced but she won the Miss Congeniality award.
