The Zamboanga Peninsula region of the Philippines has three provinces namely Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay. Collectively, the three provinces have 2,314 barangays.

On February 22, 2001, Zamboanga Sibugay became an independent province. George Hofer served as the first governor of the province, which used to be part of Zamboanga del Sur.

Zamboanga Sibugay has 16 municipalities namely Alicia, Buug, Diplahan, Imelda, Ipil, Kabasalan, Mabuhay, Malangas, Naga, Olutanga, Payao, Roseller Lim, Siay, Talusan, Titay and Tungawan. Collectively, the 16 municipalities have 389 barangays.

On April 29, 2023, Queenzel Daryl Alacio represented Tungawan at Miss Philippines Earth 2023 and competed against 27 other candidates at the Toledo City Sports Center in Toledo, Cebu, Philippines. She was unplaced.

On May 11, 2024, Kate Camille Pioquinto of Ipil and Kia Labiano of Titay competed against 27 other Miss Philippines Earth 2024 candidates at the Talakag Gym in Talakag, Bukidnon, Philippines. Pioquinto was unplaced while Labiano ranked fourth and was crowned Miss Philippines Fire 2024.
