H’Hen Niê represented Vietnam in the 67th edition of Miss Universe. It was won by Catriona Gray of the Philippines.

BIOGRAPHY

Nie is a Vietnamese philanthropist, actor, beauty queen and model from Đắk Lắk, Tây Nguyên, Vietnam. She was born in the Sứt M’đưng village in Cư Suê, Cư M’gar, Đắk Lắk to Y’Krin Êban and H’Ngơn Niê.

As a young girl, H’Hen helped her family in their coffee farm in Sứt M’đưng. After high school, she studied at the Nha Trang National Ethnic Community College in Nha Trang, Khánh Hòa, Vietnam but she only spent one year there as she transferred to the College of Foreign Economic Relations in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to study business finance.

H’Hen’s family belongs to the Austronesian ethnic group called Ê Đê. Here are 13 more things about her:

1. To pay for college, she worked as a nanny, a maid, a tutor, a leaflet deliverer, a waitress and a Christmas tree decorator.
2. She started modeling while doing her internship at a bank.
3. In 2006, her parents asked her to look for a husband because traditionally, ladies in the Ê Đê community get married young. She refused to follow the tradition because she had big dreams, which led her to Ho Chi Minh City.
4. In 2014, Vietnamese designer Đỗ Mạnh Cường discovered her.
5. In 2015, she was a “Vietnam’s Next Top Model” Season 6 finalist.
6. She won Miss Universe Vietnam 2017.
7. In 2018, she and photographer Tuan Khoi started dating.

H’Hen is 5’7.5″ tall and was the shortest among the 14 “Vietnam’s Next Top Model” Season 6 finalists. She is the third out of six children.

2010s

• She competed against 13 other finalists in “Vietnam’s Next Top Model” Season 6, which aired on VTV from August 2, 2015 to October 11, 2015. She and Đào Thị Thu finished ninth after being eliminated in the sixth episode of the show, which aired on September 20, 2015.
• On January 6, 2018, she represented Đắk Lắk at Miss Universe Vietnam 2017, competed against 69 other candidates at the Crown Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang and won the title. She initially, made a commitment to donate 70 percent of her $10,000 cash prize but following her mother’s advice, she eventually donated 100 percent of the money to provide scholarships to students in the schools she previously attended.
• On December 17, 2018, she represented Vietnam at Miss Universe 2018 and competed against 93 other candidates at the Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, Thailand. She finished in the Top 5.
• In February 2019, she spoke to 12,000 students at a conference organized by the Francis Padua Papica Foundation in Naga, Camarines Sur, Philippines.
• She and Miss Universe Vietnam 2016 Đặng Thị Lệ Hằng won “The Amazing Race Vietnam” Season 6, which aired on VTV3 from July 6, 2019 to September 7, 2019.
• On October 29, 2019, she walked the runway at Winter SS Vietnam International Fashion Week in Hanoi, Vietnam.
• On December 7, 2019, she crowned her successor Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 Nguyễn Trần Khánh Vân at the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang.

• She played Bao Vi in the action film “578 Magnum“, which was released in Vietnam on May 20, 2022.
• She was one of the 30 candidates who competed in “Chị đẹp đạp gió rẽ sóng“, which aired on VTV3 from October 28, 2023 to February 3, 2024. She finished in the Top 14.
• On October 5, 2024, she served as a judge at Miss Cosmo 2024 at the Saigon Riverside Park in Ho Chi Minh City.
• On February 10, 2025, Khoi proposed to her and she said yes.
