Joseph Neumayer, 28, a citizen of both the United States and Germany, arrived in Israel in April 2025. He is accused of attempting to firebomb the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.

“join me as I burn down the embassy in Tel Aviv,” Neumayer wrote on social media on May 19, 2025. “Death to America, death to Americans, and f—k the west.”
Later that day, Neumayer arrived outside of the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv carrying a dark-colored backpack and spit on a guard as he walked past. The guard tried to detain him but the U.S.-German citizen managed to break free.
Neumayer left behind his backpack, which contained three rudimentary improvised incendiary devices also known as Molotov cocktails. Law enforcement officers tracked him to his hotel where he was arrested.
On May 25, 2025, Israeli authorities deported Neumayer to the U.S. That day, Federal Bureau of Investigation special agents arrested him at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Jamaica, Queens, New York City, New York, USA.
After Neumayer’s arrest, he made his initial court appearance in New York City before U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Kuo, who ordered him detained. He was charged with attempting to destroy the branch office of the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv by means of fire or explosive.
The field office of the FBI in Washington, USA is investigating the case with assistance from the bureau’s field office in New York. The bureau’s legal attaché’s office in Israel and the Office of International Affairs of the U.S. Department of Justice Department provided substantial assistance.
