Christopher Lee Borreson of Maynard, Randolph County, Arkansas, United States has died. He was 47.

Christopher Borreson

Aside from Maynard, Borreson lived in other parts of Arkansas including Pocahontas. He also lived in West Plains, Missouri, USA.

In August 2024, Borreson turned 47. On May 29, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from him.

Borreson stated that he had been shot. He succumbed to his gunshot wounds while still on the call.

Joshua Smith

After the call, the RCSO requested assistance from the criminal investigation division of the Arkansas State Police. Officers with the RCSO later arrested Joshua Kane Smith, 30, of Maynard in connection to the shooting death of Borreson.

Smith was booked into the Randolph County Detention Center in Pocahontas, Randolph County. He was charged with first-degree murder.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether or not Smith and Borreson knew each other. The body of the latter has since been taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

In September 2021, Dr. Theodore “Ted” Brown joined the crime lab as a chief medical examiner. On October 23, 2023, he began his role as director for the lab.

Maynard was incorporated in 1895. It was named after John Maynard, a former captain in the Confederate Army who moved from Texas, USA to Arkansas in 1872.

Gary Hart is the incumbent mayor of Maynard. The Maynard Pioneer Museum and Park was established in the town in 1979.

Born in Maynard, Jonathan Dismang assumed office as a member of the Arkansas Senate on January 10, 2011. He turned 45, on July 30, 2024.

The RCSO is based in Pocahontas, which is around 12 miles away from Maynard. In 2019, Kevin Bell was elected as the Randolph County sheriff.
