The reigning Miss Universe Japan 2024 is Kaya Chakrabortty (チャクラボルティ雅). She is an emergency medical technician and a figure skater born in Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan to a Bangladeshi father and a Japanese mother.
Miss Universe Japan 2025
On July 16, 2025, Chakrabortty will crown her successor in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. It is the 28th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects the country’s Miss Universe candidate.

Hiroko Mima has been the national director of Miss Universe Japan since 2018. Currently, Japan has 21 Miss Universe placements, including the coronation of Akiko Kojima and Riyo Mori.
On July 24, 1959, Kojima won Miss Universe 1959 at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States. On May 28, 2007, Mori won Miss Universe 2007 at the National Auditorium in Mexico City, Mexico.
On July 14, 2008, Mima represented Japan at Miss Universe 2008 and competed against 79 other candidates at the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang, Vietnam. She finished in the Top 15.
On November 16, 2024, Chakrabortty represented Japan at Miss Universe 2024 and competed against 124 other candidates at the Arena Ciudad de México (Arena CDMX) in Azcapotzalco, Mexico City. She finished in the Top 30.
