TIMELINE

Aside from being a financial analyst, Read also worked as a college professor. She is William Read and Janet Read‘s daughter and Nathan Read‘s sister.

2022

  • On January 28, 2022, she and O’Keefe drank at C.F. McCarthy‘s bar in Canton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts with several friends. At around 11:00 p.m., they went to a nearby bar called Waterfall Bar and Grille in Canton.
  • At around 12:45 a.m. on January 29, 2022, she allegedly ran O’Keefe over with a 2021 black Lexus sport utility vehicle and left him for dead in a snowbank after dropping him off at a friend’s house in Canton for a party. At 6:00 a.m., he was found unconscious in the snowbank. At 1:00 p.m., he was pronounced dead.
  • On February 1, 2022, she was arrested.
  • On February 2, 2022, she pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision causing death in Stoughton District Court in Stoughton, Norfolk County. She was released on a $50,000 bail.

2023

  • On May 3, 2023, she appeared in  Norfolk County Superior Court in Dedham for a pre-trial hearing.
  • On September 15, 2023, she appeared in court in Dedham with Nathan and their parents.

2024

  • On April 16, 2024, her murder trial started in Norfolk, Norfolk County. She is represented by David YannettiAlan JacksonElizabeth Little and Tanis Yannetti.
  • In July 2024, her murder trial ended when jurors declared they were deadlocked and a judge declared a mistrial on the fifth day of deliberations.
  • On August 23, 2024, Judge Beverly Cannone ruled that she could be retried for murder and leaving the crime scene in O’Keefe’s death.
  • On August 26, 2024, O’Keefe’s family led by his brother Paul O’Keefe filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her, C.F. McCarthy and Waterfall Bar and Grille in Plymouth Superior Court in Brockton, Massachusetts seeking at least $50,000 in damages.

2025

  • On March 18, 2025, Cannone admonished her lawyers for repeated misrepresentations to the court.
  • On April 22, 2025, her retrial in the death of John started.
  • On June 18, 2025, she was found not guilty of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, manslaughter while operating under the influence and second-degree murder but guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol. Cannone sentenced her to one year probation.
