Elena Isabel Hidalgo Ramírez was born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica. She made history as the first mother to represent the country in Miss Universe.
On September 10, 2024, Hidalgo represented San Jose at Miss Universe Costa Rica 2024 and competed against 12 other finalists at the Centro Internacional de Convenciones ANDE (CIC ANDE) in San Antonio, Belen, Heredia, Costa Rica. She won the title.
Miss Universe Costa Rica 2025
On July 19, 2025, Hidalgo will go back to the CIC ANDE to crown her successor. It is the second edition of the national beauty pageant that selects Costa Rica’s Miss Universe candidate.
There are 15 women competing for the Miss Universe Costa Rica 2025 crown. Here are the candidates:

- Nicole Fernández, 30, San José
- Noah Rose Percich, 21, Limón

Costa Rica was represented in Miss Universe by Miss Costa Rica from 1954 to 2023 and Miss Universe Costa Rica started in 2024. The only years the country was not represented in the international beauty pageant were 1952, 1953 and 1961.
Currently, Costa Rica has six Miss Universe placements. Representing the country, Marían Esquivel finished in the Top 15 in 1954, Nancy Soto finished in the Top 10 in 2004, Johanna Solano finished in the Top 10 in 2011, Fabiana Granados finished in the Top 16 in 2013, Natalia Carvajal finished in the Top 10 in 2018 and Ivonne Cerdas finished in the Top 10 in the 2020 edition in 2021.
