John Derrick Taylor, 55, of Manvel, Brazoria County, Texas, United States is a math teacher at Texas City High School in Texas City, Galveston County, Texas. He is also a power-lifting coach for boys and girls at the Texas City Independent School District school.

Before joining Texas City ISD, Taylor was employed in Fort Stockton, Pecos County, Texas and worked in other school districts in Texas. While employed at Texas City High School, he allegedly engaged in explicit online conversations with someone he thought was a girl aged 15 and sent explicit photos on a social media app.

Taylor allegedly planned to meet the purported teenager and planned to take her to a hotel for sex. Unbeknownst to the teacher, he was actually communicating with an undercover detective.

On July 15, 2025, Taylor worked with students at the field house of Texas City High School. Shortly after, the teacher was arrested at his residence in Manvel by detectives with the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit of the Harris County Constable Office Precinct One, which is based in Houston, Texas.

The teacher was charged with online solicitation of a minor, which is a second-degree felony. If convicted, he could get up to 10 years in prison.

Texas City High School

The Texas City ISD has two high schools which are La Marque High School and Texas City High School. The former was a part of the La Marque Independent School District before July 1, 2016.

Texas City High School was established in 1952. Lincoln Hypolite has been the principal of the school since February 2016.

Former National Football League players Vernon Crawford and D’Onta Foreman are alumni of Texas City High School. They were both born in Texas City, which is around 32 miles away from Manvel and around 42 miles away from Houston.
