Stephen Martinez, 43, of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, United States has been arrested. He is accused of abusing a child.
Los Angeles is around 11 miles away from Culver City, Los Angeles County. The latter is home to Amazon MGM Studios, Culver Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.

From June 8, 2020 to June 26, 2025, Martinez was employed by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (PRCS) of Culver City. As a senior recreation leader, he was involved in youth programming at multiple facilities and parks in the city.
On July 7, 2025, the Culver City Police Department (CCPD) was alerted to allegations of sexual abuse involving Martinez. Immediately after, detectives from the department launched an investigation.
On July 16, 2025, Martinez was arrested and booked into the Culver City Jail on Duquesne Avenue in Culver City. He was charged with committing lewd and lascivious acts with at least one minor.
The investigation is still active and ongoing. More victims are being sought.
Prior to the report of the alleged abuse, Martinez was terminated from his position with Culver City due to an unrelated matter. Both the PRCS and the CCPD are working to notify parents and guardians whose children may have interacted with him through city programming.
“All PRCS staff undergo a LiveScan background check and a comprehensive interview process prior to employment,” the government of Culver City said in a statement after the arrest of Martinez. “The PRCS department has established safety protocols and staff are trained on these procedures at the time of hire and annually.”
On December 9, 2024, the city council of Culver City unanimous selected Dan O’Brien for the position of mayor of Culver City. He is an alumnus of Coeur d’Alene High School in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
