In April 2025, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office started investigating Bhagwagar as the primary suspect in a case related to sex crimes against a child. After learning about the suspect’s job, detectives obtained a Ramey warrant, an arrest warrant ordered by a court and issued before a suspect is charged.
On July 26, 2025, Bhagwagar was one of the pilots of Delta Flight 2809, which originated in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. At around 9:35 p.m., the plane landed at San Francisco International Airport in San Francisco, California.
While passengers were preparing to deplane, Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office detectives boarded the plane with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations. The detectives handcuffed Bhagwagar and removed him from the plane.
Bhagwagar’s personal belongings and luggage were retrieved by another set of officers. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility in Martinez, Contra Costa County.
Bail for Bhagwagar was set at $5 million. He faces five counts of oral copulation with a child under 10 years of age.
