Didarul Islam of New York City, New York, United States has died. He was 36.

When Islam died, his wife was eight months pregnant with their third child. The couple has two sons together.
Islam was originally from Bangladesh. He was his father’s only son.
In December 2021, Islam joined the New York City Police Department, which is based in Manhattan, New York City. He worked out of the department’s 47th precinct in the Bronx, New York City.
On July 28, 2015, Islam worked security detail at the building owned by Rudin Management Company at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan. He was off-duty but he was in his NYPD uniform.
At around 6:30 p.m., Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA open fire inside the building. Islam and four others were fatally shot.
Tamura was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor of the building. He was 27.

While Tamura was born in Hawaii, USA, he grew up in Santa Clarita, California. He was a football player at Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita and at Granada Hills Charter in Grenada Hills, Los Angeles, California.
From Santa Clarita, Tamura moved to Las Vegas where he lived with his parents. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department issued his concealed firearms permit on June 14, 2022.

Jessica Sarah Tisch assumed office as the 48th New York City police commissioner on November 25, 2025. Chell officially became the NYPD chief on January 1, 2025.
