John “Skip” Dove Jr. of Soldotna, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska, United States has died. He was 78.
Dove was a U.S. Army veteran. He served in the military during the Vietnam War, an armed conflict in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975.
LaShaunda Lewis
LaShaunda Marie Lewis, 31, of Appomattox, Appomattox County, Virginia, USA is a traveling behavioral health and psychiatric nurse. While working as a registered nurse in Soldotna, she rented a room in Dove’s residence in the city.
Lewis is a practical nursing graduate from the program of Southside Virginia Community College in South Boston, Halifax County, Virginia. On May 7, 2019, the school recognized her and other alumni at a pinning ceremony.
Aside from Appomattox, Lewis has lived in other parts of Virginia including Lynchburg. In January 2025, she turned 31.
On August 4, 2025, Alaska Department of Public Safety troopers conducted a welfare check on Lewis in Soldotna after receiving a call from her mother. The nurse told a trooper she needed to check herself in for a psychological evaluation but she refused to do so.
At 3:49 p.m. on August 5, 2025, troopers went back the same residence in Soldotna after receiving a 911 call about Lewis. They found her naked and bleeding and took to her to a hospital with self-inflicted injuries.
Dove was also found dead on the floor inside his residence. He had multiple stab wounds.
“Help me,” Lewis can be heard whispering in a video found of Dove’s phone. “He tried to kill me.”
When an investigator interviewed Lewis, she admitted she caused Dove’s death and wanted to understand why. She said she had trouble remembering parts of what happened but claimed there was a struggle.
Dove’s body was been sent to the office of Alaska’s state medical examiner for autopsy. Lewis was charged with two counts of first-degree domestic violence murder and two counts of second-degree domestic violence murder.
