Melissa Flores Godínez was born in Venustiano Carranza, Michoacán, Mexico. On September 2, 2023, she represented Michoacan at Mexicana Universal 2023, competed against 31 other candidates at the Centro de Convenciones y Exposiciones in Aguascalientes, Mexico and won the title.

Also crowned were Mexicana Internacional 2023 Valeria Villanueva of Colima, Mexicana Charm 2023 Tania Estrada of Chihuahua, Mexicana Orb 2023 Xiadani Saucedo of Mexico City and Mexicana Hispanoamericana 2023 Carolina Perez of Sinaloa. Estrada later became Miss Grand Mexico 2024 and Saucedo became Miss Charm Mexico 2024.

Mexicana Universal was not held in 2024. On March 22, 2025, Flores turned 27.

On September 4, 2025, Estrada will crown her successor at Hotel Holiday Inn Trade Center in Mexico City, Mexico. It is the seventh edition of the national beauty pageant that selects the country’s Miss Grand International, Miss International, Miss Charm, Miss Orb International and Reina Hispanoamericana candidates.

From 1952 to 1994, Señorita México sent Mexico’s representatives to Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International. The country currently has 22 Miss Universe placements including the coronation of Lupita Jones in 1991, Ximena Navarrete in 2010 and Andrea Meza in 2020 and 17 Miss International placements including the coronations of Priscila Perales in 2007 and Anagabriela Espinoza

Mexico was represented in Miss Universe from 1995 to 2014 and from 2016 to 2017 by Nuestra Belleza Mexico, which was renamed Mexicana Universal in 2018. Jones is the national director of the national beauty pageant.

From 2018 to 2023, the winner of Mexicana Universal represented Mexico in Miss Universe. Starting 2025, the winner will represent the country in Miss Grand International.
