David A. Miller, 44, of Akron, Summit County, Ohio, United States was linked by forensic evidence to the death of Clarence Shockey. The suspect was charged with murder and abuse of a corpse.

Miller is accused of beating and strangling Shockey, resulting in the death of the latter. Whether or not they knew each other is unclear.
At around 3:00 p.m. on April 9, 2025, Akron Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of North Union Street in Akron for reports of an unresponsive male. They found Shockey near the railroad tracks on the street.
Shockey was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 58.
The cause of Shockey’s death was listed as blunt force trauma and strangulation. After spending months to investigate his death, detectives from the Major Crimes Unit of the Akron Police Department presented their findings to the office of Summit County prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich in Akron.
While being held in the Summit County Jail in Akron for unrelated charges of assault and probation violation, Miller was brought in for questioning regarding the death of Shockey. The suspect remain in the same jail.

Born and raised in Akron, Pakistani-American lawyer Shammas Iqbal Qammar Malik is the son of former University of Akron chemical engineering professor Helen Qammar. From 2016 to 2018, he was an assistant director of the Akron Law Department.
Malik was an Akron City Council member from January 1, 2020 to November 7, 2023. He assumed office as the 63rd mayor of Akron on January 1, 2024.
Also on January 1, 2024, Harding became the acting chief of the Akron Police Department. He was officially sworn in as the chief of the department on May 28, 2024.
