On April 20, 2017, Crosbie referenced to a potential trip to Amsterdam, Netherlands in a Twitter post. He wrote, “Ajax away be a descent trip. 6ft blondes & most unreported rape capital of Europe sure even if it’s Vigo vs Lyon be worth a trip.”
On October 10, 2021, Crosbie took to social media to share a photo of himself and his wife. In the caption, he wrote, “Happy Birthday babe. I will rupture your cervix later.”
On the afternoon of March 14, 2024, Crosbie and his fellow Dublin Fire Brigade members arrived in Boston and were set to participate in the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade of the city. He shared a room on the sixth floor of the Omni Parker House in the city with his fellow firefighter Liam O’Brien.
In the evening, O’Brien went to The Black Rose pub in Boston where he met a woman, then 28, a lawyer representing low-income clients. At around 11:30 p.m., they went to the hotel room together while Crosbie left the room and remained elsewhere within the hotel.
After having a consensual sex, O’Brien and the woman both fell asleep in separate beds. At around 1:55 a.m. on March 15, 2024, Crosbie returned to the hotel room.
According to the woman, she awoke to Crosbie raping her vaginally with his penis. When she later testified in court, she said she managed to break free but he followed her around the room, pressed her up against the wall and kissed her.
After leaving the hotel, the woman went to the Massachusetts General Hospital in West End, Boston where she was given a rape kit. Two men’s deoxyribonucleic acid were identified on her genital swab but the amount was not sufficient to compare to a person’s genetic profile.
On March 16, 2024, Boston Police Department officers interviewed Crosbie and he told them he was returning to Ireland on March 19, 2024. After the interview, he rebooked a flight back home on a different airline, which was scheduled for 10:00 p.m. on March 16, 2024.
When Crosbie arrived at the Boston Logan International Airport in Boston, he boarded an earlier flight at around 7:00 p.m. He was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers after being removed from the plane and required to surrender his passport and remain in Massachusetts.
On June 20, 2025, the case against Crosbie declared a mistrial. He pleaded not guilty to rape.
On October 30, 2025, a jury found Crosbie guilty of rape and he was sentenced to serve seven to nine years in prison when he appeared before Suffolk County Superior Court judge Joshua Wall in Boston. The Irish firefighter was committed to the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts.
