Teresa Whalin, 28, of Centennial, Arapahoe County, Colorado, United States is a middle school teacher. Since July 2021, she has been employed by the Douglas County School District, which is based in Castle Rock, Douglas County, Colorado.

Teresa Whalin

Whalin is an integrated wellness teacher at Ranch View Middle School in Highlands Ranch, Douglas County. She is accused of sexually assaulting and exploiting a child.

Details of the alleged crimes have yet to be released. Authorities did not confirm whether or not the alleged victim is a student of the school where Whalin is teaching.

On November 10, 2025, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Whalin. She was booked into the Douglas County Detention Facility in Castle Rock.

Bond for Whalin was set at $50,000. She was charged with stalking, internet exploitation of a child and sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office notified the Douglas County School District of Whalin’s arrest. She has been placed on administrative leave.

On November 11, 2025, the school district sent a letter to the families of Ranch View Middle School students to inform them about the teacher’s arrest. On November 12, 2025, she appeared in court for a status hearing.

On November 17, 2025, Whallin will be back in court for a formal filing of charges. She has yet to post bond and she has been assigned a public defender.

Formed in 1958, the Douglas County School District is the third largest school district in Colorado. The boundary of the school district includes all of Douglas County and a section of Elbert County, Colorado.

Erin Kane was the interim superintendent of the school district from September 2016 to August 2018. She has been the superintendent since July 2022.
