Michael Kevin Patrick, 68, of Sugar Grove, Virginia, United States is a doctor who worked at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia. He is accused of having a sexual relationship with an underage female coworker.

In December 2023, a girl, then 16, started working at Smyth County Community Hospital. Shortly after starting her job, she met Patrick in an elevator and they started talking regularly at work.
At the time, the girl told Patrick that the was a 17-year-old high school student who was interested in the medical field. In 2024, they started eating lunch together and communicating regularly via text messages and phone calls.
Eventually, Patrick and the girl engaged in sexual conversations with one another and exchanged nude pictures of themselves via text message. He also started having a physical relationship with her at his home and at work.
Patrick and the girl exchanged more than 19,000 text messages with one another. After she turned 17, he had sexual intercourse with her, believing she had turned 18.
On February 3, 2026, Patrick was arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and charged via federal criminal complaint with receipt of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). On February 4, 2026, he made his initial court appearance today in U.S. District Court in Roanoke, Virginia.
The FBI investigated the case with the Marion Police Department. It is being prosecuted by assistant U.S. Attorney Whit Pierce.
Smyth County Community Hospital
From 1965 to 1967, the Smyth County Community Hospital was built to a design by the architectural firm Echols-Sparger & Associates. It was the first fully racially integrated hospital in the southwestern part of Virginia.
Finished in brick veneer, the historic hospital building is a four-story steel-framed structure with a prominent five-story brick tower projecting at its center. In 2015, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
