Dr. Gerhardt Konig is an American anesthesiologist based on Maui in Maui County, Hawaii, United States. Before moving to Hawaii, he lived in other parts of the U.S. including California and Pennsylvania.

BIOGRAPHY

Konig and his first wife Jessica L. Patella have two sons together. He and his second wife Arielle Konig, a nuclear engineer, lived on Maui with their two sons Olin Konig and Viggo Konig.

A member of the American Board of Anesthesiology, Gerhardt was employed by the Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku, Maui County as an independent contractor when he was arrested in March 2025. His parents Pieter E. Konig, a pharmacist, and Anwill M. Konig are based in Poway, California.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering and biomedical engineering at the University of California, San Diego in San Diego, California, Gerhardt earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Aside from Pittsburgh, Gerhardt has lived in different parts of Pennsylvania including Mount Lebanon and aside from San Diego, he has lived in other parts of California including Belmont, Greenbrae, La Jolla, Novato, Poway and San Anselmo.

  • On March 27, 2025, he made his initial appearance before Judge Kristine Yoo in Honolulu District Court on the charge of second-degree attempted murder of Arielle. The judge set his bail at $5 million.
  • On March 28, 2025, he was indicted by a grand jury and denied bail.
  • On April 7, 2025, he entered a not guilty plea when he appeared in court via video from the Oahu Community Correctional Center with his lawyer Thomas Otake.
