Rize, Turkiye

Navdar is a resident of Samsun, Turkiye. He was born in Rize, a vibrant city framed by the deep-blue Black Sea and the towering Kaçkar Mountains in the country.

Revered as Turkiye’s tea capital, Rize has mist-shrouded hillsides lined with emerald tea plantations that produce the vast majority of Turkish tea. The city’s unique maritime climate makes it the rainiest region in the country, giving birth to lush evergreen forests, roaring waterfalls, and serene highland plateaus like Ayder and Pokut. Historic stone-arch bridges span rushing streams like the Fırtına River, where outdoor enthusiasts gather for white-water rafting, hiking, and alpine sports. Perched high above the forest canopy, medieval landmarks such as Zil Castle stand guard over ancient trade routes.

Beyond its natural beauty, Rize offers a rich cultural experience. Visitors can sample local specialties like muhlama—a rich melted cheese and cornmeal dish—fresh Black Sea anchovies, and rare Anzer honey harvested high in the meadows.
