On July 12, 2024, Chammo entered the U.S. through Dallas, Texas, USA as a non-immigrant visa holder for military training at Fort Sill, a U.S. Army post in Lawton, Oklahoma, USA. Dallas is around 200 miles away from Fort Sill.

After completing training, Chammo was scheduled to return to Lebanon on December 5, 2024. However, he absconded after he failed to board his scheduled return flight.

On April 3, 2025, officers from the field office of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Dallas, Texas arrested Chammo in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He remains in ICE custody pending immigration removal proceedings.

Because Chammo is a non-immigrant visa entrant, he is entitled to a hearing before an immigration judge. The judge will determine if the Lebanese man can remain in the U.S. or be removed.

Formed on March 1, 2003, ICE is based in Washington, D.C., USA. On April 10, 2025, the agency posted then deleted a promotion graphic on X with the statement, “If it crosses the U.S. border illegally, it is out job to stop it”.
