From March 1, 1971 to December 1, 1975, Carpman attended the Universidad de Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires. On December 6, 1975, he graduated with a medical degree.

From December 19, 1975 to December 19, 1981, Carpman completed his internal medicine residency at the Hospital de Clinicas Jose de San Martin in Buenos Aires. From March 19, 1980 to December 19, 1982, he competed his dermatology residency at the same hospital.

From July 20, 2005 to June 30, 2007, Carpman completed another internal medicine residency at the Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. Between September 2018 and March 2018, he allegedly distributed and dispensed oxycodone, a controlled substance, through prescriptions that were issued without a legitimate medical purpose by a practitioner acting outside the usual course of professional practice.

In 2022, Carpman paid a fine of $7,500 and administrative costs of about $10,000 as part of a settlement agreement with the Florida Board of Medicine for prescribing large doses of oxycodone to a patient. He was still allowed to practice medicine while a letter of concern was placed in his file at the Florida Department of Health.

While living in a high-rise condo on Brickell Avenue in Miami, Carpman was arrested in April 2023. He was charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute opioids and four counts of illegally distributing opioids and he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Released on a $250,000 bond, Carpman was required to pay a $37,500 nonrefundable deposit and be confined to his condo on Brickell Avenue wearing global positioning system (GPS) monitoring. He was also required to give up his Florida state license to practice medicine and turn over his U.S. and Argentine passports.

On April 15, 2025, a federal jury with 12 members of in Miami took four hours to deliberate and found Carpman guilty of conspiring with the street dealers to distribute more than 2 million oxycodone pills to thousands of patients. He was also convicted of unlawfully dispensing up to 120 tablets of oxycodone in maximum dosages of 30 milligrams on a monthly basis to patients.

On June 22, 2025, Carpman will be sentenced. He faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison on each of the five counts.
