In 2007, Hurst was charged with fatally strangling his fiancée Katherine MacDougall. She was 23 and three months pregnant with their child when she was killed.
After being found drinking beer in MacDougall’s car, Hurst admitted to killing her. He told investigators that he smoked crack regularly and he traded a diamond ring he had given her for more drugs.
With credit for 434 days, Hurst was sentenced to 18 to 20 years in prison in May 2008. While incarcerated at the Pondville Correctional Center in Norfolk, Massachusetts in 2023, he allegedly kicked a 10-week-old service dog that belonged to another inmate who feuded with him at the prison.
After attacking the dog, which lifted off the ground and landed on its stomach, Hurst had a physical altercation with the dog’s owner. In 2024, Hurst was placed on probation after he pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.
Surveillance camera recorded Hurst driving the sport utility vehicle of Gomes after the latter was found dead. After the vehicle fled a traffic stop, it was found illegally parked.
On August 21, 2025, Hurst was arrested near City Hall Plaza in Boston for the murder of Gomes. The Foxborough man pleaded not guilty to one count of murder when he was arraigned in West Roxbury District Court in Boston.
On September 17, 2025, Hurst will attend a probable cause hearing. He was ordered held without bail at Suffolk County Jail in Boston.
