DaCara Rose Thompson of Lanham, Prince George’s County, Maryland, United States has died. She was 19.

Thomson was 5’2″ tall and weight around 105 pounds. She is Carmen Thompson‘s daughter.

On August 22, 2025, DaCara was seen at a Shell gas station at the Eastgate Shopping Center in Lanham. In the early morning hours of August 23, 2025, she was recorded by surveillance cameras approaching a black sport utility vehicle after getting out of her pearl white 2013 Ford Edge.

After speaking with the driver of the SUV, DaCara entered the vehicle, which was later traced to the residence of Hugo Hernandez Mendez, 35, in Bowie, Prince George’s County. She was reported missing later that day.

DaCara’s 2013 Ford Edge was later found abandoned in Hyattsville, Prince George’s County. Her belongings including her purse, wallet, cash and house keys were inside the vehicle and her cellphone was disabled.

On August 31, 2025, police officers and DaCara’s family held a prayer vigil in Hyattsville. Later that day, she was found dead in a grassy area off Route 50 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

A cause of death has yet to be released. Maryland State Police launched a death investigation.

Hugo Hernandez

On September 4, 2025, police officers searched Hernandez’s residence in the 12000 block of Kembridge Drive in Bowie. They found evidence indicating DaCara was murdered in a bedroom inside his residence and arrested him.

On September 5, 2025, the Prince George’s County Police Department announced that Hernandez was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree murder in the death of DaCara. Whether the suspect and the victim knew each other prior to the disappearance of the latter has yet to be confirmed.

On September 8, 2025, Hernandez will attend a bond hearing. He is being held without bond by the Department of Corrections.
