Oninda Romelus, 31, of Porter, Montgomery County, Texas, United States is being held on a $14 million bond. She is accused of shooting her two sons and two daughters.

Romelus gave birth to her first son O’Karreo Covington in 2012, her first daughter Kylee Romelus in 2016, her second son Traviel Downer in 2017 and her second daughter Amourra Chapell in 2022. Also in 2022, Oninda was convicted of driving under the influence of drugs in Fayette County, Georgia, USA.
Oninda is 5’2″ tall and her registered weight is 229 pounds. She has lived in different parts of Georgia including Atlanta, Fayetteville, Smyrna and Villa Rica.
On October 4, 2025, Oninda drove to the Oasis gas station on SH 288 in Angleton, Brazoria County, Texas. She allegedly shot her four children in the car.
At 4:45 a.m. that day, Oninda called 911 and asked authorities to come to her location at a gas station near Angleton, Brazoria County, Texas. While on the phone, she bought $56 worth of gas.
Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the gas station and found Oninda’s four children with gunshot wounds. When the deputies questioned the mother outside the car, she appeared alert and aware of her surroundings but she was not making sense.
Covington was shot in the head in the front passenger seat and Chapell was shot in the backseat. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Kylee was shot in the side and arm and Downer was shot in the arm. Life Flight flew them to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Both Kylee and Downer have been talking with Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office investigators. Both children are expected to recover.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether Romulus shot the children at the gas station or at a different location. She was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
When questioned in an interview room at the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, she appeared paranoid and made several incriminating statements. A court will decide who will have temporary custody of her two surviving children once they are released from the hospital.
