Renee Nicole Good of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States has died. She was 37.
Good was married to Rebecca Good, 40. The former was fatally shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross.
Jonathan Ross
On June 17, 2025, Ross one of the federal agents who conducted a traffic stop to arrest Roberto Carlos Muñoz, a resident of Bloomington, Minnesota. Originally from Guatemala, Muñoz is an undocumented immigrant charged with sexually abusing a teenage relative in 2022.
While the agents were trying to arrest Muñoz, Ross was dragged across the pavement for about 100 yard. The ICE agent’s arm was pinned into the back window of a car as the suspect sped away.
During the encounter, Ross fired his Taser at Muñoz. The ICE agent suffered a cut to his right arm that required 20 stitches and as a cut to his left hand that required 13 stitches.
This encounter was cited by some officials as evidence that ICE agents face deadly threats that force them to react with extreme force.
After Renee’s death, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin declined to name Ross. However, McLaughlin described him as “a longtime ICE officer who has been serving his country his entire life”.
According to McLaughlin, Ross’s experience included a selection to an ICE Special Response Team. She said this requires 30 hours of tryouts, continuous training and expert marksman qualifications.
“This is an experienced officer who followed his training,” DHS secretary Kristi Noem said of Ross at a news conference. He added that the department will “continue to let the investigation unfold into the individual and continue to follow the procedures and policies that happen in these use of force cases”.
Renee Good
Born in Colorado, USA to Tim Ganger and Donna Ganger, Renee and her husband, a military veteran, have three children born in 2010, 2023 and 2019. After Renee’s husband died, she moved to Kansas, USA to live with her parents.
In 2025, Renee moved to Minneapolis with Rebecca. Their house is less than a mile from where George Floyd was killed in 2020.
A stay-at-home mother, Renee dropped her last child at Southside Family Charter School in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. On her way home, she cross paths with Ross as ICE agents worked in the city.
Renee’s Honda Pilot was partially blocking a road that the agents were trying to drive down so Ross walked to the front of her vehicle.
Two other agents rushed toward her window and tried to open the vehicle’s door. Renee briefly put the vehicle in reverse before shifting into drive and hit the gas.
The wheels seemingly turned to the right instead of directly ahead toward Ross, who began firing. Renee was shot and was later pronounced dead.
