Directed by James Gunn, “Man of Tomorrow” will hit theaters on July 9, 2027. He is writing the screenplay with Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel.
The DC Universe is rapidly expanding under the leadership of Gunn and Peter Safran and new details regarding the film suggest that the production is reaching its final stages of assembly. As the follow-up to the successful 2025 “Superman” reboot, which earned $618 million at the global box office, this installment looks to raise the stakes by forcing David Corenswet’s Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor into an uneasy alliance. The two legendary rivals must set aside their differences to face the formidable threat of Brainiac, portrayed by German actor Lars Eidinger.
“Man of Tomorrow”
While the ensemble cast of “Man of Tomorrow” is already packed with star power, recent updates from Gunn himself indicate that the casting process is nearly complete. Responding to inquiries on Threads, he revealed that only one role remains to be filled before the roster is finalized.
Gunn further clarified that every major character has already been cast and announced, which has led to significant speculation regarding who will occupy that final slot. For fans holding out hope for a surprise appearance by Wonder Woman, the news may be bittersweet. Given the monumental importance of Diana Prince to the future of the DCU, industry analysts suggest it is unlikely that the studio would wait until the eleventh hour to cast such a pivotal hero, making a cameo in this particular film improbable.
Instead, the spotlight has shifted toward the character of Maxima, an alien queen known in DC lore as both a foil and a potential suitor for Superman. Reports indicate that several high-profile actresses have already screen-tested for the part, including Adria Arjona, Sydney Chandler, Grace Van Patten and Eva De Dominici. Gunn has remained coy about confirming Maxima’s presence in the script but rumors claim that a deal is imminent as production is scheduled to begin shortly in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
The film will also feature a massive supporting cast, bridging various corners of the DCU. Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane, joined by Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher. Moreover, it will integrate members of the Justice League and other heroes, including Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
