William Byron “Bill” Lee assumed office as the 50th governor of Tennessee, United States on January 19, 2019. Paul Andrew Young has been the mayor of Memphis, Tennessee since January 1, 2024.

A native of Memphis, Young turned 46 on October 7, 2024. Born in Queens, New York City, New York, USA, Donald Trump assumed office as the country’s 47th president on January 20, 2025 and signed a presidential memorandum that established the Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) on September 15, 2025.

Born in Franklin, Tennessee, Lee turned 66 on October 9, 2025. Trump turned 80 on June 14, 2026.

MSTF

On August 13, 2026, the MSTF executed 32 arrests and recovered seven illegal firearms. Among the arrestees were Steven Davis, 61, Andre Evans, 47, Remuires West, 31, Leandre Harris, 28, and Drevious Ward, 18.

MSTF agents executed a search warrant at a house in the 1300 block of South Parkway East in Memphis and arrested Davis, who was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime. The agents recovered:

  • $1,200 in cash
  • 59.1 grams of marijuana
  • a Mossberg Maverick 88 shotgun
  • drug paraphernalia
  • ammunition

During a traffic stop MSTF officers initiated for driving with fictitious plates in the 900 block of Getwell Road in Memphis, they arrested West after learning that he had an active federal warrant for unlawful shipment, transfer, receipt, or possession by a felon. They found a .38-caliber revolver and a bag containing approximately 2 grams of suspected ecstasy in his vehicle.

After MSTF agents executed a search warrant at a house in the 400 block of Laclede Avenue in Memphis, they arrested Evans, Harris and Ward without incident. The agents recovered:

  • $31,000 in cash
  • 3,750 grams of promethazine
  • 522 pills of oxycodone
  • 132 pills of alprazolam
  • 78 packs of buprenorphine
  • 72 pills of amphetamine dextroamphetamine
  • 30.6 grams of marijuana
  • weapons (two 9mm pistols, a .40-caliber pistol, a .380 pistol and ammunition)
  • hydrochloride

Evans, Harris and Ward were each charged with manufacture, delivery, and sale of controlled substances. In addition, Harris and Ward were each charged with unlawful possession of narcotics and Evans was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Human Flourishing Initiative

On August 14, 2026, Lee and Young attended the public launch of the Human Flourishing Initiative at the Salvation Army Kroc Center on East Parkway in Memphis. The initiative is designed to help families escape poverty permanently.

The gathering drew state commissioners, nonprofit partners and faith leaders. During the event, Lee discussed the initiative’s collaborative approach, which unites federal and state bodies with local community and faith-based organizations to connect families with essential crisis resources.
