Merle Vern Anderson, born in Bay City, Michigan, was a U.S. Navy veteran and fireman at The Dow Chemical Company. He married Thelma Brown in 1945, having eight children together. After being critically burned in a boiler explosion, he died in 1966. His daughter Nancy was later murdered in 1972.
