Michael Leroy Byrd is a U.S. Capitol Police captain known for shooting Ashli Babbitt during the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. A D.C. native residing in Maryland, Byrd joined the police in 1993, faced prior controversies, and was eventually cleared of wrongdoing regarding the shooting. His identity was revealed in 2021.
