Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, third Druk Gyalpo, established Thimphu as Bhutan's capital in 1961 and died in 1972. His successor, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, reigned until 2006, followed by Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, crowned in 2008. In October 2008, Tsokye Tsomo Karchung won Miss Bhutan, representing the country in several international pageants.

Tsokye Tsomo Karchung, born in Thimphu, Bhutan, became Miss Bhutan 2008 at age 24. She will represent Bhutan at Miss Earth, marking the country's debut in the pageant. The event, advocating environmental awareness, features over 80 candidates, with the reigning Miss Earth, Jessica Trisko, crowning her successor on November 9, 2008.

The first Miss Bhutan pageant is scheduled for October 10, 2008, at the YDF Auditorium in Thimpu, featuring 19 contestants. The winner will participate in Miss Earth 2008 on November 9 in the Philippines, marking Bhutan's debut in the competition. Candidates hail from various regions across Bhutan.
