Vedra Karamitas was a Greek-South African ballet teacher and the first Miss South Africa of Greek descent. Born in Limpopo, she won Miss South Africa 1964 and competed in Miss World. She struggled with health issues and faced legal troubles before tragically taking her own life in 1970 at age 28.
