Training out of Vila Da Luta in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Michelle Nicolini, 37, was one of the winners at “ONE: Masters of Destiny.” She defeated reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstopabble” Angela Lee, 23, of Singapore.
ONE Championship included four kickboxing contests, two Muay Thai matches and 10 mixed martial arts bouts on the “ONE: Masters of Destiny” card. In the co-main event of the evening, Nicolini and Lee competed in an MMA match in the women’s strawweight division with Olivier Coste as the referee.
In a women’s strawweight co-main event, two of the world’s best grapplers put on a show. An eight-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion, Nicolini was relentless in her takedowns.
Nicolini repeatedly grounded Lee and controlled her on the mat. The Singaporean contender had her moments as she put her Brazilian foe in some precarious situations.
After three grueling three-minute rounds, the strawweight contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Coste raised the hand of Nicolini, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “ONE: Masters of Destiny” improved the professional MMA record of Nicolini to 6 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Lee now has 9 wins and 2 losses.
“ONE: Masters of Destiny” marked the second time Lee competed in the strawweight division. On March 31, 2019, she had her first MMA loss when she failed to dethrone reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 31, of China.
Including China and Singapore, 20 countries were represented at “ONE: Masters of Destiny.” The others were Australia, Brazil, China, Finland, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Scotland, South Korea, Taiwan, Timor Leste, Vietnam and the United States.
