Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, United States, jazz tenor saxophonist Carlos Wesley “Don” Byas turned 59 on October 21, 1971 and died in Amsterdam, Netherlands on August 24, 1972. His fellow Muskogee native Samuel Aaron Bell, a jazz double-bassist, turned 82 on April 24, 2003 and died on July 28, 2003.
Both jazz violinist and guitarist Claude “Fiddler” Williams and jazz guitarist Barney Kessel were also born in Muskogee. The former turned 96 on February 22, 2004 and died in Kansas City, Missouri, USA and the latter turned 80 on October 17, 2003 and died in San Diego, California, USA on May 6, 2004.

Carrie Marrie Underwood won the fourth season of “American Idol“. She is the third female winner of the singing competition television series created by Simon Fuller.
Born in Muskogee to Steve Underwood and Carole Shatswell Underwood, Carrie grew up on her parents’ farm in Checotah, Oklahoma with her older sisters Shanna Underwood and Stephanie Underwood. On March 10, 2005, Carrie turned 22.
The winners of the first two seasons of “American Idol” are Kelly Clarkson, who was born in Fort Worth, Texas, USA and Ruben Studdard, who was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Born in High Point, North Carolina, USA, Fantasia Barrino won the third edition.
