“American Idol” is a singing competition television series. It was created by Simon Fuller, an entrepreneur, an artist manager and a film and television producer born in British Cyprus.
The competition was based on “Pop Idol.” Also created by Fuller, “Pop Idol” ran on ITV in the United Kingdom from 2001 to 2003.
