Jorge Masvidal, 21, of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States was one of the winners at “BodogFIGHT: To the Brink of War“. It marked the Cuban-Peruvian-American mixed martial artist’s debut in the MMA promotion founded by Calvin Ayre, 45.

BodogFIGHT: To the Brink of War

Featuring 10 MMA matches, “BodogFIGHT: To the Brink of War” was held in San Jose, Costa Rica on August 22, 2006. The first match was a welterweight bout between Masvidal and Keith Wisniewski, 24, of Portage, Portage Township, Porter County, Indiana, USA.

After three 5-minute rounds, the referee raised the hand of Masvidal. The fighter from Miami was declared the winner via majority decision.

Losing to Masvidal downgraded Wisniewski’s professional MMA record to 12 wins and 11 losses. The fighter from Portage made his professional MMA debut on April 25, 1998.

On the other hand, Masvidal now has 9 wins and 3 losses. It was his first professional MMA fight outside the U.S.

Jorge Masvidal

Masvidal is 5’11” tall. He is a former lightweight.

Born and raised in Miami, Masvidal attended St. Brendan High School in Westchester, Miami-Dade County. While in high school, he competed in wrestling but he failed to stay eligible because of his grades.

On May 24, 2003, Masvidal made his professional MMA debut. On June 24, 2006, he was crowned the new Absolute Fighting Championship Welterweight Champion in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida.
