David Roland Cook was born in Houston, Texas, United States to Stanley Cook and Beth Foraker. David is Adam Cook‘s younger brother and Andrew Cook‘s older brother.

In 1995, David received his first guitar, which was a Fender Stratocaster. He preformed in musicals at Blue Springs South High School in Blue Springs, Missouri, USA.

When David was in high school, he was an avid baseball player. He focused on music after an injury.

In 2006, David graduated from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. After his graduation, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA to pursue a career in music.

On December 20, 2007, David turned 25. Five months later, he won the seventh season of “American Idol”.

Runner-up to David was David Archuleta. The latter was born in Miami, Florida, USA to a Spanish-Danish-Irish-German father and a Honduran mother.

Archuleta attended Murray High School in Murray, Utah, USA. On December 28, 2007, he turned 17.
