Jorge Masvidal TKOs Ryan Schultz at ‘World Victory Road Presents: Sengoku 5’ in Tokyo, Japan

Jorge Masvidal, 23, of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States has earned his first World Victory Road victory. Founded in 2007 and based in Tokyo, Japan, the mixed martial arts promotion promotes the Sengoku Raiden Championship.

Featuring eight MMA matches, “World Victory Road Presents: Sengoku 5” was held at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo on September 28, 2008. The first match was a Sengoku Lightweight Grand Prix reserve bout between Masvidal and Ryan Schultz, 31, of North Platte, Lincoln County, Nebraska, USA.

Yoshinori Umeki served as the referee. He stopped the fight after 1 minutes and 57 seconds in the first round when Masvidal defeated Schultz via technical knockout via punches.

The victory improved Masvidal’s professional MMA record to 15 wins and 3 losses. It was the Miami resident’s second professional MMA fight in Japan.

On the other hand, Schultz now has 21 wins, 11 losses and 1 draw. He made his professional MMA debut on April 12, 2003.

Born and raised in Miami, Masvidal attended St. Brendan High School in Westchester, Miami-Dade County. While in high school, he competed in wrestling but he failed to stay eligible because of his grades.

Masvidal is 5’11” tall. He is a former welterweight.

On May 24, 2003, Masvidal made his professional MMA debut. He previously competed in Absolute Fighting Championship, BodogFIGHT and Crazy Horse Fights.

On June 24, 2006, Masvidal was crowned the AFC Welterweight Champion in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida. On July 14, 2007, he knocked out Ultimate Fighting Championship alum Yves Edwards in their BodogFIGHT match in Trenton, New Jersey, USA.
