Born in Staffanstorp, Sweden, Renate Veronica Cerljen won the inaugural edition of Miss Universe Sweden in Stockholm, Sweden on June 6, 2009. She competed against 15 other candidates.

On June 5, 2010, Cerljen went back to Stockholm and crowned Michaela Savic as the next Miss Universe Sweden. The latter will represent Sweden at Miss Universe 2010.

Born in Helsingborg, Skåne County, Sweden, Savic turned 19 on March 14, 2010. She was Miss Universe Sweden 2009 first runner-up.

On August 23, 2009, Cerljen represented Sweden at Miss Universe 2009 at the Imperial Ballroom on Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. She competed against 82 other candidates and finished in the Top 15.

On March 26, 2010, Cerljen turned 22. On May 11, 2010, she represented Sweden at Beauty of the World 2010 at Le Meridien Qingdao at Wanda Plaza in Qingdao, Shandong, China and competed against 54 other candidates including Freliha Baiba of Latvia, who won the title.

Cerljen was fourth runner-up to Baiba. The respective first, second and third runners-up were Ajiu of China, Tesfahun Kida Gebreegziabher of Ethiopia and Ashley Ruiz Rodriguez of the United States.
