Bhutanese filmmaker Karma Tshering of Bumthang, Bhutan is the founding president of Miss Bhutan. On September 9, 1999, he founded the Film Association of Bhutan.
On October 10, 2008, the Miss Bhutan 2008 coronation ceremony was held at the YDF Auditorium in Thimphu, Bhutan. It is the inaugural edition of the national beauty pageant.
Thimphu native Tsokye Tsomo Karchung won the title. She competed against 17 other candidates.
On November 9, 2008, Karchung represented Bhutan at Miss Earth 2008 and competed against 84 other candidates at the Clark Expo Ampitheater in Angeles City, Philippines. She was unplaced.
On September 25, 2010, Karchung crowned Sonam Choden Retty of Punakha as the next Miss Bhutan. It has yet to be confirmed whether or not the latter will represent the country at Miss Earth 2010.
