Greece is a country in Southeastern Europe. Officially called the Hellenic Republic, the country shares land borders with North Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, Turkey to the northeast and Albania to the northwest.

On March 25, 1821, Greece declared its independence from the Ottoman Empire. On October 25, 1945, the country was admitted to the United Nations.

Karolos Papoulias, 81, is the incumbent president of Greece. He assumed office on March 12, 2005.
